Kieru went for a walk one afternoon with no real destination in mind. As she walked, she noticed something not too far off in the distance that has a sort of eerie aura around it. It almost seemed like the place was still in a state that appeared a sort of constant "dawn".
'curious...' Kieru thought as she decided to walk over to check out what it was. As she approached the area, Kieru noticed a young girl on a stone near the gate singing a song that carried lightly on the breeze. It was a sort of haunting song though this little girl seemed to be rather cheerful as she sang it.
The closer Kieru came to this girl, the more the song seemed to fade aswell as the girl. When she approached the rock, swearing she had never seen the girl move, the girl was not there. 'A spirit...?' Kieru thought to herself as she continued into the Catacombs slowly beginning to get the feeling that something didn't want her there.
After a little bit, she heard the song coming from directly behind her. Kieru turned and came face to face with the little girl, only her face was that of something more almost like a gargoyle than a little girl. The spirit's face was all distorted as it came near her, still singing in a rather fightening tone and voice almost sounding as though more voices were beginning to join in though from this one spirit.
Kieru drew her staff, holding it ready to block. The spirit came directly towards her and she held her staff out. However, the spirit seemed to go right through the staff and through Kieru herself. She felt a huge gust of wind at the same time, then turned around, looking all around herself, the song and spirit gone.
Kieru lowered her staff and her head, thinking for a moment and deciding she should leave before something actually does happen. As Kieru headed for the exit, she saw the girl who was singing before sort of beating up a fellow female spirit, only this one looked normal, and she was crying. Kieru ran over to the two spirits, seeming to chase the one with the gargoyle face away.
The crying spirit thanked her in a sort of frightened tone and began to explain to Kieru a dark secret held within the Catacombs and herself. "I was born into one of the families that reside in these Catacombs" The little spirit girl said. "All of them were strong families, though tormented by their own demons.... Most of us had gone crazy in our lives, killing ourselves or many others that reside here.
"I was born in the least tormented of the families. I had never seen what anyone else had seen. Everyone I knew was always so cruel all the time to everyone else. I was the only one who ever tried to help, so everyone thought I was strange. The young girl explained. "One evening, the other families decided that my family, especially myself, should die because we were not as tormented as they were. They were jealous and wanted us gone so that their jealousy would end. That was the beginning of the tragedy."
"My family was killed that night and burried in these catacombs. they then began to be overcome with jealousy with every other family. The families began to get into small wars with each other, all becoming ugly spirits with faces not human because of their greed and hatred that had taken over them. Even as spirits, these families are in constant battles."
"I am the only one who still looks fully human.... I am afraid for the fate of everyone in these catacombs... They never rest.... I wish for us all to finally be able to rest... But they aren't going to listen to the one they hate the most.... I wonder.... Is there anything you might be able to do? Please, help my family... Help all of us... Bring us peace, I beg you." The little girl requested, with a worried and almost scared look on her face.
Kieru looked at the little girl. Things like this were what hit her heart so hard. This girl who had died because she was kind and that kindness became her weakness as she allowed for their cruelty, still only wishing the best for everyone. Kieru lowered her head for a moment then looked at the girl again. "What must I do?"
The young spirit girl smiled at Kieru and began to walk to the largest of the catacombs. Kieru followed quietly as the girl led her deep into the catacombs, into the darkness. Kieru pulled out a match and lit it as they headed further in so she would be able to see. After she lit it, she almost wished she hadn't as the sight around her was horrifying.
Almost a hundred spirits surrounded herself and the girl, all seeming to be slowly turning into these gargoyle like creatures, glaring intensely at them. Kieru watched the girl as she followed her still, sure that she hadn't been lying.
The young spirit girl stopped at the top of a mass of stairs that led deep down to the bottom of the catacombs. "The most unrestless of all lays down there. He claims he is building an army of beings that we would be able to inhabit to head back and take over earth with.... He's been working down there for years with the bodies of all of us here.... No one dares enter until he calls for us... Most of us want him to succeed...."
"I'm sure if you destroy him, you may just be able to destroy the reason everyone here refuses to finally go to rest..."
Kieru put her match out as it had started to burn her fingers. She lit another match and slowly headed down to the bottom, her staff ready just in case. As she reached the bottom, she heard an evil laugh echoing throughout the room.
"The little brat finally caught a bite..... delicious... You shall make a fine addition to my army." The voice said in a dark, cruel tone, as a mass of torches lit up. A man appearing in an almost full gargoyle body approached her with an evil grin and glare.
Kieru readied her staff for combat just in case, suddenly wondering if this creature was physical or not. As the creature approached even closer, Kieru swung her staff at it. The man jumped away, barely being hit by her staff. Kieru grinned as the gargoyle man seemed in slight pain. "So you are able to be hit." Kieru remarked as she approached the man. "This will be over rather quickly." She stated as she swing at the man again really fast, hitting him hard and knocking him back.
After a few attacks back and forth, Kieru heard a sound like marching around her. The gargoyle man grinned as a mass of creatures came towards them, all ready to attack this girl. Kieru gave a somewhat annoyed look and she ran back up the stairs and heading out, figuring she'd have a better chance outside than in that creature's underground lair.
The mass followed her rather quickly, almost catching her a couple times. As Kieru exited, she turned around as she continued to run away, counter attacking the creatures heading after her, hitting them rather hard with her staff, smashing a few heads in or off. There was no blood, and those who died simply crumbled into ash.
This sight was somewhat disturbing, though Kieru knew nothing in battle was allowed to distract you from fighting, the consequences possibly being fatal. She ignored the odd aspects of these creatures as she continued to smash them up one by one as they came at her. After she got off a majority, leaving maybe about 100, they seemed to start making a large circle around her.
Kieru stopped, holding her staff ready to defend and attack when the circle opened up at one end to let their master through. He grinned sickeningly evil at Kieru as he approached, the circle slowly beginning to shrink in towards her, the creatures becoming clumps making the walls of the circle larger as they surrounded her.
Kieru closed her eyes for a moment, a few of the creatures attacking as they saw this. Without hesitation, Kieru moved with her eyes still closed, smashing the creatures down, opening them after she hit off at least 3, continuing to attack and defend. Her body was scratched and bruised, but Kieru continued to fight them off.
She was somewhat shocked when she saw another person on the outside of the circle rush towards and beginning to knock down more of the creatures. She couldn't make out who this person was, but knowing there was now someone else there she almost felt a bit relieved. She continued to fight off the creatures who went after her, noticing that many had begun to notice the other person, beginning to make a second circle around them aswell.
(Didn't intend to make it that long. lol Anyone can reply as long as they can really fight. )
