The Blind Bandit

Human (Earthbender)

14 years old

Background[/u]
Blind since birth, Toph is looked down upon the eyes of others, especially her over-protective parents. They were so concerned of her well-being, they even stretch their protection of Toph into extreme measures by hiding her existence from the world. Since the Bei Fong family is well-known as one of the wealthiest family in the Earth Kingdom capital, Toph is treated like a fragile doll, with guards and escorts in every inch of her life.
Though blind, Toph has developed a formidable talent; Earthbending...or in a more familliar term, geokinesis(though she can't control plants, just earth). Many in the kingdom where she lives possess the ability, but Toph is unique, because she's a blind Earthbender. When she was 6, she ran away from home, and got lost in a cave, due to her blind state. There, she stumbled upon some Badgermoles, creatures that are blind like her and uses the earth as their eyes. Toph learns from them, imitating their moves and gained experience in her Earthbending skill, then soon developing an alternate for her eyes; her feet. Her Earthbending ability allows her to see through the earth, as she let out these sonic waves through the ground and can sense the vibrations of objects around her, living or not.
At age 12, she ran away from home to assist a small group on a kingdom-saving quest and drastically heightens her abilities and skills through all the challenges and difficulties. Toph then learned that through her blindness, she acquired an ability no Earthbender can achieve; Metalbending. Toph can sense the fragments of earth inside metal, her first time is during her captivity inside a metallic box, since metals are basically ores from the earth, which leads her to be able to bend metal. However, she's still training on her Metalbending ability.
After completing the quest, she is then summoned by her parents to return home...and being a headstrong child she is, she never wants to be trapped in her house again, so she finally decided that the earth she's stepping on is her home, rebelling her way out of the kingdom and moved to a more stranger place in a quest of perfecting her skills - the world. After two years of being a freelance traveller, Toph decided she wanted to lay low for a while(parents sending huntsmen again, she figured), then signed in for the nearest place she can find right at the moment; Diabolic Domain.[/color]
(Basically, if you're too lazy to read, her background, personalities and skills are neatly packed in one video over here. Please enjoy the AMV~ ^_^)
Personality[/u]
Although Toph is raised in a protected and high-classed atmosphere, she chose not to use all the manners she was taught, and be a person of her own right. This blind girl is independent, stubborn, strong, confident, loves fighting, always stands her ground and is an exceptionally skilled combatant, bringing a new meaning of 'fighting like a girl' to the world. In short, Toph is an absolute tomboy. Even if she's just a child, she took her training very seriously, and has high hopes of being a skilled warrior. And BEING a child, having fun is always her priority.
Toph also has a tendency to be rude and insensitive to others, as she's rather egoistic. The Earthbender always mistook a stranger's simple gesture of kindness as an act of sympathy to her blindness, so she's not exactly a friendly type of person. She's also gifted in mocking others, taunting and pissing them off if they treated her like a baby...or just for the sheer fun of it. When speaking, Toph is brutally honest and straightforward, sarcastic too in a way. Her tough shell is really just her defensive trait, because she's just like any other teenage girl going through the fortunes and hardships of life.
Weapon(s)/ Abilities
Born as an Earthbender or an expert in geokinesis, Toph can bend the earth, and control the ground to her liking. She can raise rocks from the soil, depress the ground to a hole, pulls out rock-hard shields from the earth, solidify mud and other earth-based attacks, defenses and skill-boosts. She can also slightly move metal if she concentrates hard enough. Toph doesn't have any weapons, unless you count her two bare feet.
Strengths[/b]
Without Earthbending, Toph is rather fast and agile, due to her small and lightweight body. With Earthbending, she can predict her enemy's next move, and counterattack with a stomp of her foot or a swift motion of her hand.
Because of her blind state, she uses her feet to feel the things around her, and through her feet alone, she can detect even the minute of vibrations...a person's heartbeat, being one. Toph can tell when others are lying using their heartbeats...unless they're lying to their own senses. Like any other blind people, Toph's other senses are extremely sharp, her hearing especially. She also admits that she never forgets a voice.
Toph also possesses an extremely piercing tongue, cussing and attacking her enemy's self-confidence first by throwing a caustic remark before physically beating the crap out of her opponent. She believes that penetrating a man's self-assurance is like a quick jab to a person's shell before she thoroughly breaks it to pieces, giving her admission to charge and attack easily. Mentally, Toph is quick to think of a way to act when she noticed something's wrong, and her calm satire usually gets the best of her even on the most critical situations.
Weaknesses[/u]
Being very reliable to her feet, Toph especially hates it if anyone touches her feet, as those are her main senses to connect to the earth, and is the reason she wears no shoes(like other Earthbenders). This means, if she was stripped away from the ground, like being in the air, or water, or in a wooden or iced floor, Toph is rendered helpless...as she can't really feel her way airborne, she can't swim and she can't feel vibrations through wood and ice. Sand is also a big disadvantage to her, because of the continuous shifting, she described it as "fuzzy", and is truly like a real blind person.
Toph is also exceptionally weak to air-based attack as she can't really see them unless they were launched from the ground...and that's only if she has enough time and luck to predict where exactly is it going to land. Because she's blind, she can't read, or sense anything written or printed. She is also unable to see what others looked like, as the earth can only give a limited amount of information on people, that is their physical stature and their heartbeat.
In more personal terms, Toph might likely reveal her self-counsciousness when others pointed out anything related to her looks, as she doesn't even know what she looks like, and is actually pretty sensitive on that particular subject...since she's still a girl. Her lack of feminine qualities, both physically and how she acts, is also one of the many things Toph silently hopes she possess.
