Makenzi walked out into the backyard in mid-afternoon to search for a place to train her body on working with her father's sword. She looked around the area, finding a good spot, semi-open but with a few trees around to keep her mostly out of sight. She pulled the large sword awkwardly from her belt, tipping over slightly as it weighted her to one side but catching herself before falling and managing to stand straight again.
She decided on a center spot for her training space and stabbed her sword into the ground there. She then took a few steps back and lowered herself to the ground, just inches from her father's sword and began her new training program, starting with push ups.
Makenzi placed her palms flat on the ground and began to push, using all her strength and just barely moving her body off the ground before collapsing. Her face went confused and a bit contorted as she pushed herself up again, barely getting off the ground before collapsing once more.
After a few more tries, Makenzi gave up on push ups and rolled over onto her back, pulling up her knees and keeping her feet flat on the ground, crossing her arms over her chest and using all her strength to do a few sit ups. However, it didn't take more than just a few to make her body quiver in pain and strain and she collapsed against the ground once more, already breathing a bit heavily.
She let out a light sigh then turned back over and stood up, beginning to do some jumping jacks, certain she could at least do fifty or more. After only twenty she began to get tired, though she continued to push herself to do the whole fifty, sitting straight down on her bottom after finishing and letting out a "whew" sound, surprised that it was even so hard to do that much.
She stared at her father's sword, thinking a moment before deciding to start on something a bit easier. She pulled her legs out from her cross-legged position and began to do stretches, holding each stretch for at least twenty seconds. She continued this for a while until she had done nearly every stretch she knew.
Makenzi finally stood again and watched her father's sword as she walked back to it, gripping her small hands around the large handle and forcing it out of the ground, the force of that nearly tipping her backwards until she caught herself again. She let out a heavy breath then took a stance, right leg out in front, left leg a bit back to keep her steady. The end of the sword handle nearly touched her right knee as she stood there, trying to find a good center of balance before practicing her walking.
She scuttled forward and backward a few times, trying her hardest to keep herself and the sword steady, tipping slightly every now and then. Her arms were beginning to ache already but she wasn't about to give up yet. She slowly practiced turning now to her left and back to her right, keeping her eyes locked on the slight sway of the sword in order to hold it steady.
She continued this for a while, her arms becoming even more tired before she decided then to practice walking side to side. She moved to the right, her sword tipped to the left so she put pressure on the handle to tip it more to the right with her. Instead of fixing the problem, though, she accidentally tipped it a bit too much and her body began to run to the side with the sword, narrowly missing running into a person who had, to her knowledge, only recently entered the area, as her sword stabbed down into the ground right near that person's feet.
