His sword cut through the air to the ground. He whipped round swinging his sword for a horizontal hit continuing into a sequence of flourishes and stabs. Sweat dropped from Veldrins face and he paused for taking a deep breath. His eyes looked up from the grasslands with it’s trees and rocks to the bright open range of sky. The morning sun slowly climbed to it’s highest point. For a few seconds Veldrin closed his eyes and went inside his mind. This was his first day he arrived in the Diabolic Domain. He was registered an assigned to one of the dormitory rooms. His schedule told him he had no lessons on his first day. Entering the dormitories and walking through the schoolyards didn’t let him see any others, but he was glad about that. He decided to leave the school grounds and city for enjoying nature and practicing. He didn’t know why fate, the gods, or whatever led him to this place, the Diabolic Domain. But he was hoping to find an answer. The voice of a screaming eagle brought him back to reality. Veldrin followed it’s flight for a while. Then he opened the closure of a flacon he took from his belt with an iron made hand. The metallic fingers screwed on the closure with an unnatural quickness and measured up the air with some quiet klick-noises from metal on metal. The liquid satisfied his thirst and he put back the flask on the leather belt he wore on a tight-fitting scale armor. Raised his sword he started fighting against invisible enemies again.

Eyes wide, stance crooked, and a rather oversized sword for her strapped to her back as young Makenzi noticed a rather incredible looking man practicing his sword fighting. A smile grew on her face as Makenzi broke into a run towards the man, hoping to find someone who could teach her to use her father's sword.
"Excuse me! She called as she ran, stopping about 10 feet away from him, her hands clasped together under her chin in plea. "Hey, you're pretty good! Would you be my teacher? Pleeeaassee? You see, when my father left, I found his sword and I've always wanted to be able to use it like he used to. He was a knight for the King of my country. He was an amazing fighter. Oh would you please teach me?" She said, her sentences seeming to be all in one line.

Veldrin stopped in the sequence of hits because he noticed something appearing behind his back. He heard a quick speaking voice and turned around slowly. His eyes discovered a young girl, wearing a sword on her back. Veldrins look seemed to be expressionless. He put his sword down and his right hand firmed on its pommel. In some places the sword’s blade were engraved with strange runes. Following up his right arm you could discover the beginning of a scar continuing on the upper arm till hidden under his shirt and armor. “I’m not a teacher” he said in a denying way. He took his sword up as if he wanted to examine it like an object he has never seen before. “What do you expect from the ability of handling thy sword?"

Makenzi pursed her lips a moment as she thought. 'What do I expect?'
"Well..... I want to learn to use my father's sword... To... Well, I could help people... And..." She sort of trailed off, with a face showing she was thinking hard, not quite sure what to add. She hadn't really thought of what she could do if she could use it, all she had thought of was that she would be able to wield the sword her father once had done incredible tasks with.

“I thought as much” said Veldrin with a snide accent. “Help people… How do you think you could help people with this?” He raised his sword as if he wanted to show it.

"If something's trying to hurt someone, I could defend them and keep it away..." She said almost a bit quietly as she watched this man.

Veldrin had to laugh in his mind "If something's trying to hurt someone, I could defend them and keep it away..." This simplicity! What does she know about defending others in believing to do something good. “You have no idea…” Veldrin said. He was about to turn around but then something held him back. The girl’s brown eyes looked up to him in a hopefully and almost sad way. This girl with her strapped sword on the back… Suddenly he felt remembered to his childhood. He saw a little boy, playing with friends, also having swords and always trying to be a great warrior and great hero. Wasn’t he like this girl, long, long time ago? Wasn’t he willingly to learn how to use his sword and to become a swordsman? The days of his childhood… How simple the whole world was. Always heading for a little adventure. Himself and his friends… his friends… Suddenly he felt deep sadness inside of him. His look became empty. And for a moment he lost himself in this maelstrom of feelings that crept over him so often.

Makenzi looked down a moment then back up again. "Well, even if I don't know things right now, I'd someday learn, right? And if you teach me then I could be ready for what's out there... And... " Makenzi trailed off again, looking down, worried a bit that he might say he wouldn't accept her as a trainee.
"I really.... admired my father when he was all dressed up in his knight suit....." Makenzi said a bit quietly, looking almost sadly at the ground. "I'd really.... really like to put his sword to use again.... I'd heard great stories about him from when he'd worked under the King.... They said he'd done great things.... I don't know exactly what.... But I've always had this image of him in my head since I was little.... When I'd seen him all suited up and smiling at me. When things were still okay...."
Makenzi listed a hand up to her lips to keep them from quivering as she stared sadly at the ground, thinking about what had happened after her father had retired.

Veldrin had to fight active not to shiver. He clenched his fists and slowly his inner feelings became normal again. The girl’s voice reverberated like an echo far away in his mind. He had not to ask what happened to her father. The fact she carried his sword speakes for itself. “... I’m not a teacher” Veldrin explained once again. “I don’t know where my way is leading me. I’ve lost all my hopes and views for the world since... things happened.” His look sank to the ground becaming indistinct and his voice got a trace of sadness. “... great men don’t become great for wielding their blade in a good way. It’s not the sword that accomplishes actions, but the arm who wields, the heart behind. If for the good or for the ill, that’s not the decision of the sword. It’s yours, it’s ours.” Veldrin started walking to the foot of a tree and kneeled down, picking a small yellow flower. His mechanical fingers caressed the beautiful petals, although he couldn’t feel anything. It was a strange sight to see something such lively and wonderful in this dead and creepy hand. He walked back, focused on the flower in his hand. “Swords destroy the beauty... but the quest of every swordsman should be to create new beauty...” He opened his mechanical and showed the flower Makenzi. “I will not teach and i can not teach someone. There were times ago I’d have teached for the belief in my actions... but today...” Veldrin lightly shook his head. “But you aroused my interest.” Veldrin went on. “Take your sword.”

Makenzi looked sadly to the ground as he said he would not teach. She had been hoping he would. So when he told her to take her sword, Makenzi looked back up at him with slightly widened eyes. "Eh? So you'll teach me then?" She asked, her face brightening a bit, wanting to make sure she had heard him correctly.

"I said I'm no teacher. Not at this moment." Veldrin said in a cold way. "I'm not the right one for teaching others. I have to learn a lot more for myself." Veldrins hand wandered to the hilt of his sword. "And now take your sword."

Makenzi looked at him a bit confused but nodded and reached for her father's sword. As she pulled it out from behind her, it sort of sparkled in the sunlight. For a moment, Makenzi held it in the air before it pulled her down and fell into the ground. "Eh...?" Makenzi looked at the sword with a slight frustrated look since it was so heavy to carry as she attempted to pick it back up.
A couple small grunt noises came out of her as Makenzi forced her sword into the air again, using all the strength she could muster to keep it up. A sheepish sort of half smile crossed her face as she looked at the man, feeling rather embarrassed that she could hardly even carry the weight of the sword.

Veldrin looked very amused as he watched the girl, fighting with the weight of her sword. She could hardly hold it. But he didn't say anything. Suddenly, without a sign, Veldrin swung his sword with a cry over his head to attack Makenzi.

"Hyaaa!" Makenzi used all her weak strength to push the sword up in the air to block the attack, cringing slightly as the blades collided and herself then falling backwards onto the ground, her legs having collapsed from the pressure, grunting slightly from the pain of it.
Makenzi's arms shook as she still forced her sword to remain in the air a moment longer, pushing it forward slightly to use the momentum of it's swing to help her to stand again. She looked at the man, hoping if he threw another swing, she could be able to counter it again, hopefully without falling the next time.
Makenzi took a small step back as she tried to force her sword in the air again, falling a bit to the side but catching herself and standing with her arms still shaking trying to hold up the weight of a sword too large for her small body.

A grin appeares on Veldrin's face. He watched Makenzi's reaction with honest curiosity. Finally, as she stands on both feet again, fighting with the weight of her sword, he said with a calm voice: "Interesting..." he paused and eyeballed Makenzi from top to botton. "... But Don't you think your sword is..." he paused again "... a little overweight? Maybe you should try a lighter blade first? But let me guess: It was your fathers sword, thus it's your sword, right?"
